Student Rotations
West AHEC offers a variety of clinical education experiences for medical and allied health students within our 14 county service area. Area physicians serve as community-based faculty, precepting students in acute care, long-term care or private practice settings.
Student Rotation Services available may include:
- Assistance locating housing accommodations if needed and in specific areas
- Provision of an orientation to the region and clinical training facility
- Notification of any appropriate continuing education programs being offered in the region during your rotation
- Provision of library services through our Library Network. Services include access to clinical resource books, medical and allied health journals, interlibrary loans, on-line computer searches, etc
- Visitation during your rotation to see how things are going and to offer further assistance if needed
Housing Accommodations
Housing accommodations vary depending on location and availability. Potential housing options include furnished apartments, surgery student house or family/housing host at private homes. All housing is arranged on a first come first serve basis.
University Specific Student Rotations Information
University of Louisville Students
- Complete a Fact Sheet at the U of L Central AHEC Office
- All Fact Sheets should be signed by the clinical coordinator in the appropriate department
- Fact Sheets should be completed no later than one month prior to beginning each rotation
- You will received one round-trip travel reimbursement from Louisville to your rotation site
- You will receive $40 / week food allotment placed on your Higher One card
- You will receive $100 / week for housing arrangements made by West AHEC staff members that will be placed on your Higher One card
University of Kentucky Students
- Complete a Fact Sheet at the UK Central AHEC Office
- All Fact Sheets should be signed by the clinical coordinator in the appropriate department
- Fact Sheets should be completed no later than one month prior to beginning each rotation
- You will receive one round-trip travel reimbursement from Lexington to your rotation site
- You are allotted $100 / week for housing arrangements made by West AHEC staff members
- Our office will pay your housing host directly for your rent
- The Central AHEC office will reimburse you for your housing allotment, with the exception of those students who stay in Madisonville, our office will bill the Central AHEC office directly for your rent
