Diabetes can affect every major system in your body so it is important to understand the different types of diabetes and the signs and symptoms associated with each.

The most common diabetes diagnosis' include:

  • Pre-Diabetes: Blood sugar levels can be high or low without a diabetes diagnosis. This pre-diabetes diagnosis is something you can work toward managing in an effort to not end up with a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis.
  • Type 1 Diabetes: Occurs when the pancreas are attacked by the body. Type 1 diabetes can be inherited and while it can occur later in childhood, for example, it is not something you can develop as an adult.
  • Type 2 Diabetes: Occurs when the body is making too little insulin to properly regulate blood sugar levels or isn’t using the insulin it has in an effective way. Type 2 diabetes is not something you are born with, it is developed over time.
  • Gestational Diabetes: Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that occurs while you are pregnant.
